Welcome to the Department of Comparative Literature. In this age of global exchange, the CL program promotes a study of literature that expands cultural connections among societies and bridges disciplines. The departmental course offerings include classes in world literature, critical theory and interdisciplinary studies where students work intensively with a distinguished faculty of scholars in Turkish, Ottoman, European, Anglo-American and Postcolonial literary and cultural studies. At the same time, the major encourages students to take advantage of the rich offerings of courses in other KU departments or study abroad. Our major leads to the advanced study of literature at the graduate level and provides a strong basis for advanced degrees and/or careers in publishing, journalism, cultural studies, philosophy, education, international relations, film and entertainment.
